Charles C. Horn, PhD Associate Professor, Medicine
My research focus is the biological mechanisms of gut-brain communication and how this system impacts human health. Our laboratory conducts research in preclinical and clinical studies on anorexic conditions (associated with nausea and vomiting), gastric motility, the control of food intake, and nutrition. We use small animal models, computerized behavioral analysis, electrophysiology, neuroanatomical techniques, and programming/analysis routines (R, Matlab, Linux, Python). This research program has the long-term goal of developing treatments to decrease symptom burden and improve quality of life for patients, particularly those with gastrointestinal disease and undergoing cytotoxic cancer chemotherapy.
